AN AWEN GELTEK - Wassailing 2014

AN AWEN GELTEK - Wassailing

Could this be a first for the parish of St. Wenn?

On Friday 17th January a Wassail was held at Homeleigh Orchard, Tregonetha.  The weather was fine, calm and dry, and we had a really good evening.

Thanks to Lyn for help with the bonfire making, and Colin for the bonfire lighting.  Thanks to Joanna and Colin for providing the wassail ( in the form of mulled cider), and for the "merry dance around the orchard".  Thanks to Elke for blessing the trees and crops, here in Cornwall, and throughout the land.  Thanks to Sarah Kyber for allowing us to park in her drive.  AND..... last but DEFINITELY not least, thank you SO much James (Curran) for making the time to give the orchard a "make-over, and haircut" prior to the event.

Thank you so much to everyone who came, and, I hope, enjoyed the St. Wenn wassail. I must say you were all in very fine voice for the wassail song!

I would be interested to know if anyone knows whether such an event has ever been held in the parish. If so, I would love to hear from you.

The next An Awen Geltek get together will be on

FRIDAY MARCH 7th at Egg Cup Cottage, at 7.30pm.

Tea and biscuits provided.  We will be researching Castle-an-Dinas, which, as some of you will know is a few miles away, near St. Columb, and is where the mid-summer bonfire is held each year by the Old Cornwall Society.  That's about as much as I know at present, but I hope to learn a lot more at our gathering, when, hopefully we will all bring anything we can find on the subject to share.

Hope to see you then,
Duw genowgh
