St. Wenn 69th Annual Open Garden Show held Saturday 5th August 2017

In its 69th year the show was opened by Mrs Daisy Hawkey who spoke of the shows earliest
days when held in the School and thanked the St Wenn WI who continued to organize the
event over many years. The show was also attended by Councillor Paul Wills who also
spoke of his admiration of the show’s increased number of fine exhibits over recent years.

Daisy was thanked and presented with an Orchid by Harry & Charlie Hawkey.

Chair of St Wenn Community Fund, Stephen Chidgey also thanked the WI, Stewards &
helpers with special thanks to show secretary Christine Goad and administrator Sarah
Doughty and our show Judges. Grateful thanks also to our local business sponsors &
donations of 28 raffle prizes.

Jim Goad - St Wenn exhibitor gaining most points in flower and vegetable classes
Mr Solomon - Most Points in vegetable classes
Edith Burt - Most points in show
Edith Burt – Best exhibit in gladioli classes
Sarah Hawkey – Best exhibit in floral Art
Maria Jago – Most points in cookery classes by a St Wenn WI member.

David Williams – Most points in flower classes
Ailsa Taylor – Most points in children’s classes
Diane Pomeroy – Most points to new exhibitor in show
David Williams – Best exhibit in sweet pea class
Sarah Hawkey – Most Points in floral art
Henry Goad – Flower arrangement
Ella Scott – Flower arrangement
Ned Pywell – Pre-School art
Ella Scott – Most points in children’s class (senior)
Simon Grant & Diane Pomeroy – Most points in art, photography & craft

Planning for a 70th Grand Garden Show next year on Saturday 4th August 2018.

Last Night of the Proms - September 9th 2017 from 7.15 St Wenn Hall on the large screen –
Bar & food.
