70th Garden Show review

St Wenn celebrated their annual garden show in it’s 70th year Saturday 4 th August

St Wenn celebrated their annual garden show in its 70th year Saturday 4th August.

The event was opened by John Bennallick who was just 15 years old when the garden show back then was held in the School. Since then over the 70 years, the show has been put on and organized by the St Wenn WI and more recently by the St Wenn Community Project in just it’s 3rd year as the organizing body and charity committed to the upkeep and support of the community (WI Hall) and community events.

Show secretary was Mrs. Christine Goad ably assisted by Sarah Doughty and other members of the WI and local volunteers including the hall committee.

Entries despite challenging growing conditions with a late wet cold spring followed by very hot dry weeks in summer did not affect the wide-ranging exhibits which were of superior quality.  Equally impressive were entries for flowers, baking, photography, arts, and crafts.

John Bennallick thanked the judges one of whom remarked, "St Wenn Show remains one of the best and friendliest shows where the standards and style have remained pretty much the same in the 70 years”

Thank you to the following businesses for sponsoring the show. These are Rock view vets, Rosedown eggs, The old barn (Tregonetha), Tregolls farm (St Wenn), Buttermilk confectionery, Cornwall conveniences, E Doughty and sons, Sarena Cornwall Ltd, Health, and Beauty studio (St Columb). Also, a huge thank you to all businesses and people who donated prizes towards the raffle. Most of all thank you to the people who supported the garden show.
